Detailed description of the data product

A StarCatalogProduct contains the following elements that describe a sky patch and associated information required to reconstruct star spectra:

  • StarCatalog: Star catalogue filename, associated with the area it covers on the sky

  • SedLibrary: Library identifier, and data container to a the star SEDs templates used to produce star spectra

  • ReferenceFilterFile: Data container with the filter throughput filename, used to renormalize the star templates to apparent flux.

  • ReferenceColumnName: Name of the column in the star catalogue, containing the apparent magnitude of the stars to simulate

The name of the release is given by the DataSetRelease element in Header section of the data product.

StarCatalog FITS format

The format of the input star catalogue is specified by the FITS format sim.starCatalog 0.2. More information can be found on the Redmine wiki. A catalogue contains the following columns:

Parameters

  • SOURCE_ID: Unique Id of a star in the survey

  • RA: Right ascension (J2000) in degree

  • DEC: Declination (J2000) in degree

  • DIST: Radial distance kpc

  • TU_MAG_H_2MASS: Apparent magnitude in the Vega System in the 2MASS H band

  • SED_TEMPLATE: index in the BaSeL 2.2 library of spectra

  • AV: MW optical extinction in the V band
