Welcome to Guilaine Lagache’s web PAGE
I am a senior astronomer at the LAM (Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille).
I work in the “GECO” department (Galaxies, Etoiles et COsmologie) towards understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies in their large-scale structures of dark-matter, and in the context of the cosmological model.
I am involved in a number of scientific projects mostly linked to the observations from the mid-infrared to the millimeter wavelengths. In particular, I have been heavily involved in the Planck project.
I am currently dedicated to two projects:
- observing distant and dusty galaxies with the NIKA2 camera. This is the NIKA2 Cosmological Legacy Survey, a major millimeter survey mapping two key extragalactic deep fields: GOODS‑North and COSMOS. Its aim is to explore the populations of dust‑obscured star-forming galaxies (DSFGs) at high redshift using deep 1.2 mm and 2.0 mm observations. Our results are released here.
- CONCERTO, which was a project for the construction and operation of a sub-millimeter/millimeter spectrometer. The instrument consisted of a focal plane based on Kinetic Inductance Detectors (KIDs), cooled to 70 mK, and a Martin-Puplett Interferometer, enabling the acquisition of a complete spectrum for frequencies ranging from 125 to 310 GHz.
The instrument was installed on the APEX telescope in Chile from April 2021 to May 2023. With a field of view of 18.6 arcminutes in diameter, a maximum frequency resolution of 1.3 GHz, and broad spectral coverage, CONCERTO carried out major 3D observation programs (from July 2021 to December 2022):
o. A survey of brightness fluctuations of the [CII] line over 1.4 square degrees, to probe galaxy evolution ("Large Program" of 800 hours).
o. Surveys of galactic star-forming regions, galaxy clusters, nearby galaxies, and evolved star.
CONCERTO is the first and only instrument to have performed a survey of [CII] line brightness fluctuations ("intensity mapping"). Data reduction are underway.

I am also highly supporting the SKA project and I am involved in the preparation of AtLAST and PRIMA.
